BAPS revived PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Mendoza

In its 20th year of foundation from 1989 and 8th year of hybernation, the Bicol Association of Philosophy Seminarians (BAPS) was revived as it was originally conceptualized by some seminarians two decades ago. This time, it has a new name, the Bicol Association of Philosophy Seminaries. Through the initiative of the Rectors of the Four Philosophy Seminaries in Bicol, namely: Fr. Cezar Echano Jr. of the Holy Trinity College Seminary – Daet, Msgr. Noe Thomas, PC  of Mater Salutis College Seminary – Albay, Fr. Henry Diesta of Our Lady of Peñafrancia Seminary – Sorsogon, headed by Fr. Peter Berina of Holy Rosary Minor Seminary. Upon their agreement , they created the core-group of Student-leader Seminarians to make up with the initial plan of reviving the association. They were Sem. Kris Gerard Martinez of Daet, Sem. Gil Cordova of Albay, Sem. Jovencio Gaton of Sorsogon and Sem. Austin John Ortinero of Caceres – the team leader. And so invitations were sent. It was February 19, 2009 when they gathered in the Host Seminary, Naga Seminary. The theme was “Pilosopiya, Pagkapadi asin an satuyang Ina” with the subtitle: “A fraternal and Academic Assembly of Seminarians and Formators in Philosophy Seminaries in Bicol.” Towards a meaningful celebration of the 300 Years of devotion to Our Lady of Penafrancia. Among the featured events during the gathering were the Philosophical Lecture of Fr. Enrico Gonzalez, O.P.,Ph.D. Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in University of Sto. Thomas. A Eucharistic celebration was also held with the Most. Rev. Leonardo Legaspi, O.P.,D.D. Archbishop of Caceres as presider and preacher. Twenty five groupings were also set to facilitate the fraternal meal and sharing of experiences, basketball and volleyball games played with mixed players, volleyball among formators and with the lively closing ceremonies. They ended the gathering with much hope and joy. Next year’s host will be Our Lady of Penafrancia Seminary, Sorsogon.
